About the Summit

The Aviation and Aerospace Safety Summit brings together industry leaders, safety professionals, and regulators to address the most pressing challenges and opportunities in aviation safety. With the theme "Empowering Safety Leaders, Cultivating Safety Culture," this event is designed to enhance safety leadership and foster a proactive safety culture across the aviation sector. Through a keynote address on The Critical Role of Safety Leadership, an expert panel discussion on Aviation and Aerospace Safety Culture, and opportunities for networking, the summit aims to drive innovation, leadership, and continuous improvement in safety practices throughout the industry.

Keynote Speaker

Robert Sumwalt

Mr. Robert Sumwalt, Executive Director, Boeing Center for Aviation & Aerospace Safety, Embry-Riddle

The Honorable Robert Sumwalt is Executive Director of the Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he also holds appointments as Distinguished Fellow in Aviation Safety and Associate Professor. 

Previously, Sumwalt served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Member of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for 15 years, where he was appointed by U.S. Presidents Bush, Obama, and Trump. 

Prior to that, Sumwalt was an airline pilot for 24 years with over 14,000 flight hours in the Boeing 727, 737, Airbus A-320, Fokker F-28, and Fokker F-100. He has co-authored books on aircraft accidents and safety management systems (SMS) and he has published over 100 articles on accident investigation, SMS, and human factors. 

Sumwalt received a Master of Aeronautical Science Degree (with distinction) from Embry-Riddle Worldwide with concentrations in aviation/aerospace safety systems and aviation human factors. In September 2021, Sumwalt was awarded the Flight Safety Foundation — Boeing Aviation Safety Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Panel Discussion: Aviation and Aerospace Safety Culture

The panel discussion will explore the complexities of aviation safety culture, bringing together a diverse group of leading experts and regulators to address the challenges and share best practices for fostering a strong safety culture within the industry. Key topics will include the critical roles of leadership, effective communication, and the essential elements of a positive safety culture.
